I'm a Developer or Designer

Since the way Organic works is by matching talented individuals to the projects we are working on, we are always on the lookout for talented, passionate individuals that would love to work on innovative projects.

As developers, we all would love to be working on the next Google Project, the next twitter or the next revolutionary software product in the financial, marketing or other sectors. But we don’t always have these opportunities. Organic gives you these opportunties.

We support a network of developers, designers and testers, and we do this by getting you work that you love doing. You just need to make us aware of your skills and expertise, and in doing so, you will always be notified of any new projects Organic adopts.

Although many of these projects will not have any direct remuneration (fees for service), they will always include shares, options or other mechanisms for developers to financially benefit. And in some instances, there are fees for service.

So if you would like to fill in some of your spare time working on exciting and innovative projects, and working together with other like minded developers and innovators, get involved, and tell us about yourself.

Developer Questions

Do I always work for Free?
No, although most of the projects Organic do are based on shared equity in the final result, there are occasionally projects that do lend themselves to these models. these projects may have a very specific need for a customer that have a lower likelihood of generating any additional revenue. In these instances, Organic seeks fees for services for the developers etc.

How do share/options/revenue schemes work?
They vary from project to project, but essentially the principles remain the same. Remuneration generally occur in two areas; 1) revenue share & 2) some form of ownership. A revenue split is agreed up front, again depending on the actual business model (revenue could be license sales, subscriptions, advertising etc). For example, if the business model has Revenue being generated from subscriptions, every team member get an agreed, apportioned amount of that subscription for themselves. Ownership is complicated as it can come in many forms, but it is relevant, because this is converted to a cash remuneration on a liquidity event, such as the IP being acquired, business being acquired, merge, float etc.

How do I get selected?
Organic keeps a database of all the resources that have registered themselves with organisation. Whenever a new project is accepted, we attempt to try and match resources that we have to the project. In addition to that, everyone registered to Organic has access to our project area, where they are able to see any projects that we are working on, or recruiting for. the teams we put together are usually very small (usually teams of 2-5) to make sure it becomes a worthwhile venture for all parties involved.

What if I have an idea?
Great! Although we put a heavy influence of matching business minds together with technology minds, there is no reason at all that a technology person can’t come up with a great business idea (In fact, that’s where most of them come from). You may have that great idea, and would love to get a bunch of developers and designers together to work on the project with you and share in the rewards. In that case, Organic is perfect for you!

How do we work as a team?
Organic is a fluid and dynamic organisation that uses all the great features of the modern day workforce. Individuals work remotely and collaborate using the best of what the web cab offer, Skype, Twitter, IM, Email, and tons of free collaboration tools.

How do I liaise with the business expert?
This will vary with the project and the team, but will essentially be using a lot of the same communication mechanisms mentioned above. The methodologies we embrace and recommend are lightweight ones, that are document light. Drawings describing ideas, emails describing processes and Skype calls for clarification are the most popular. We put structure around the actual work by using popular Agile methods such as Stories, Sprints and Iterations.

How much of my time is required?
As much time as you want to commit! Remember, you will be working on the project because you love to do it. Most people are going to have full time jobs, and will be doing this on the side, and that is what we expect. But we do expect that you will be at least spending several hours a week on the project.

What kind of Experience Do I require?
None. Of course we always want to be working with the best developer minds out there, but we are just as likely to accept graduates that want the experience. You have been learning Ruby on Rails and just need a project to “cut your teeth” on? Great, we should have something for you!

Can I use the work as references?
Absolutely!
